Dental Cleaning Overview

Our dental cleanings in Bakersfield have proven to reduce tooth decay and cavities, while giving you clean teeth and the beautiful smile you deserve.

Dental cleanings or prophy will remove plaque (soft, sticky bacteria) and tartar (calculus) deposits on your teeth that have built up over time. Your teeth are continually exposed to saliva, which contains calcium that helps strengthen and protect teeth. Although this seems to be a good thing, it also causes a build-up of calcium deposits on your teeth which, over time, will be like limestone on a metal surface that needs to be removed. Plaque, tartar and calcium buildups can cause the color of your teeth to change colors, ranging from yellow to brown or black. A professional dental cleaning, exam and x-rays are recommended twice a year, along with regular brushing and flossing to give you clean teeth and maintain good oral hygiene and healthy gums. Our team will make sure this is a pleasant experience from the moment you walk in the door.

Prevention avoids serious and costly dental problems

We provide the best dental cleanings in Bakersfield at Salin Dentistry. Our dental exams will help prevent tooth decay, cavities and unnecessary fillings, thus providing you with superior oral health.

By having regular dental cleanings and exams, which are key to a healthy, confident and beautiful smile, you can avoid tooth decay and serious and costly dental problems. If the tartar (scale or calculus) accumulates on your teeth, it will regrettably provide the perfect settings for bacteria to grow and thrive next to your gums. By having regular teeth cleanings, your teeth will be clean and smooth so bacteria is unable to stick to your teeth. Our dental hygienists use specialized instruments to gently remove the plaque and tartar without harming your teeth. Once all the surfaces are smooth, our hygienist will then brush your teeth with prophylaxis paste and a soft rubber cup to make them shiny as well as smooth. Our hygienist may also recommend antibiotic therapy, fluoride, or de-sensitizing treatments.

Dental cleaning advice for your home care routine from Holly V.

Coming in twice a year for teeth cleaning is definitely a good start to your oral health, but that is only the start. Let me suggest to you the American Dental Association recommended at-home dental care regiment. Brush your teeth twice a day, but don’t rush. Use the proper equipment, such as a soft bristled toothbrush, that fits your mouth or maybe an electric operated one. Practice good technique by holding your toothbrush at a slight angle aiming the bristles toward the area where your tooth meets your gum. Keep your equipment clean by always rinsing your toothbrush with water after brushing. Know when to replace your toothbrush. Also, when flossing, don’t skimp on the floss, use about 18 inches. Be gentle by using a rubbing motion to get between teeth. Take the teeth one at a time and rub both sides of the tooth. Finally, keep it up for better dental health.
