Sometimes a Tooth Cannot be Saved

Tooth extraction in Bakersfield. If you have a severely cracked or decayed tooth or rigorous trauma to a tooth, you may need a tooth removed.

Permanent teeth were made to last a lifetime, but there are a number of reasons why you may need to have a tooth pulled. There are various reasons for extractions which include: extra teeth in the mouth; baby teeth that don’t fall out; creating room for teeth being moved into place with braces; or wisdom teeth that are causing pain and swelling. When a tooth has been broken or damaged by decay or infection, we will try to fix it with a filling, crown or other treatment. Sometimes, however, there is too much damage and the tooth cannot be repaired. In a case like this, an extraction may be necessary. Many questions arise when you have dental concerns; please call us and schedule a consultation, so we can address your concerns and questions.

What to Expect With a Tooth Removal

We are trained for tooth extractions in Bakersfield and will give you quality, gentle, compassionate care and help

Dentists and oral surgeons (dentists that have received special training for oral surgery) perform tooth removals. Most patients experience stress or anxiety when anticipating an extraction. No need to worry, our doctors and team will put you at ease and will take the utmost care to create a pain free experience. Before pulling the tooth, our dentist will take an x-ray of the area to help plan the best way to remove the tooth. Then, he will give you a local anesthetic to numb the area where the tooth will be removed. If there is more than one tooth to be extracted or additional anxiety, we do offer nitrous gas, oral or IV conscious sedation. You may be prescribed an antibiotic to be taken before and after the surgery, if you have an infection, weakened immune system or other specific medical conditions. Here at Salin Dentistry, we perform all types of extractions when necessary, including surgical extraction. Extraction of impacted wisdom teeth, however, are referred to an oral surgeon when appropriate.

"Recovering From Extraction"

"Recovering From Extraction"

Tooth extraction in Bakersfield and recovery at Salin Dentistry. Once healed, we are able to restore and replace lost teeth with dental implants and bridges.

"After the extraction, it will be several hours before the anesthetic wears off and you have feeling in your jaw. Please be careful not to chew in the area of the extraction. Also, avoid any food or drink that is too hot and could burn gum tissues. Our dental team will give you instructions regarding taking care of your teeth and gums before you go home. If you have discomfort, you may take over the counter painkillers such as ibuprofen. Do not rinse your mouth vigorously for 24 hours. You may brush your teeth as usual, but keep away from the healing wound. Eat soft foods and gradually return to your normal diet. Your comfort is our first priority. If you experience any questions regarding your recovery please call (661) 323-1000."
